About CostToRun

Clear estimates, visible assumptions

CostToRun helps people translate appliance power into a practical electricity-cost estimate using the rate on their own bill.

Our formula

Cost = (watts ÷ 1,000) × hours used × electricity price per kWh. Weekly figures use the selected days per week. Monthly figures use 52 weeks divided by 12 months.

Where example values come from

Preset wattages are illustrative values within common product ranges. They are not claims about every model and are never a substitute for a rating label, energy label, manufacturer specification, or plug-in power meter.

Editorial standard

Every guide states its assumptions, explains factors that alter real consumption, and separates rated power from measured energy use. Pages are reviewed when calculator logic or example assumptions change.

Important limitation

Results are educational estimates, not financial, engineering, or safety advice. Taxes, tiered tariffs, time-of-use prices, fixed charges, appliance condition, and duty cycles can change actual bills.
